Welcome to our December 2016 New AASECT Members!
Wendy Maltz's groundbreaking recovery classic, Incest & Sexuality: A Guide to Understanding & Healing (Lexington Books, 1987), is now available for FREE download through the International Psychotherapy Institute's free psychotherapy books program. Coauthored with Beverly Holman, it was the first book to devote itself entirely to the sexual repercussions of sexual abuse.
Welcome to our January 2017 New AASECT Members!
Isa Jones does such a good job in the Phoenix area! She held a great meeting in January, and she has three more planned so far in 2017: January 20, 2017: "Somatic Healing with Charlie Glickman." Isa reports that attendance was excellent with 30 people, maxing out the room's capacity. Four (4) APA CEs were granted, as well as four (4) AASECT CEs. Upcoming Events:
It is an active time in Alaska this spring. AASECT members Susan LaGrande PhD, Chris Reynolds PsyD, and Kelvin Pace MS, will be offering a workshop entitled Untangling the Controversies Surrounding Sexual Addiction at the Couples Center's annual meeting. We are also coordinating with this group to provide brown bag lunch meetings on topics of interest in the area of fostering sex positive relationships in couples.
Neil Cannon reports that the Colorado Holiday Party in December, held on December 5, 2016, was a great success. This party always features a "naughty cake" -- that is, an actual cake with a sexually suggestive "naughty" decoration or design with the icing on the top. He did not send me a picture of this year's cake, like he did last year, but I bet if you emailed him, he would send you a pic. Or maybe not...evidently, the cakes are so "naughty" that he may not be able to send such photos through email! :)
We held another successful Meet and Greet on January 10, our first of the year in the Northeast. Featured guest this time was our very beloved Jassy Timberlake, who gave a really insightful presentation on the intersectionality of creating a trans* positive sex therapy practice in keeping with a social justice framework. We had a wonderful crowd, great discussion, 1 AASECT CE for each participant, and a hearty, locally-sourced lunch.
