AASECT Summer Institute Recap

We are just home from the 2017 AASECT Summer Institute and we are happy to report back that it was a huge success!

We started off on Day 1 with a (non-AASECT, yet well-known) national speaker, Robert Taibbi who covered the fundamentals of supervision.  We followed with our process group, led by Gretchen Fincke and Sally Valentine. Moving into Friday we began with Peggy Kleinplatz, talking of Transformational Supervision, who blazed in to change the whole tone and tenor...we were on a fast roll from there that carried us through Sunday!

Friday afternoon began with Konnie McCaffree and Susan Stiritz, (addressing sex education supervision) and again, Gretchen Fincke and Sally Valentine co-facilitating the process group at the end of the day. Dinner on Friday night was on-site at Washinton University followed by a sizzling panel of Richelle Frabotta, Neil Cannon, Linda Weiner and Ricky Siegel accompanied by discussion.

James Wadley, who gave a wonderful presentation on cultural competency in supervision and Gretchen Fincke who engaged the group with a presetnation on group supervision led the day on Saturday. We concluded Saturday with an Imago Group facilitated by Gail Guttman and Sylvia Rosenfeld. We wrapped up the Institute on Sunday with Sallie Foley, (sex counseling supervision), and Sally Valentine (sex therapy supervision), followed by Prem Pahwa, the chair of PESC, and Sally Valentine who led a large group process which gave participants the opportunity to express thoughts and feelings experienced during the whole summer institute.

The "on ground and behind the scenes" organizing was led by Susan Stiritz and some of her Fellows in the Brown School of Social Work on the campus of Washington University. Prem Pahwa oversaw the entire endeavor from conception to completion. 

Thank you to everyone who attended the Institute - it was a wonderful event! We are looking forward to our next Institute and will be sharing more information as soon as it is availble!
